The Forest Society of Maine (FSM), in conjunction with the Maine Bureau of Parks and Lands (BPL), under the Maine Department of Conservation, will host a clean-up day next month on Big Spencer Mountain, off Moosehead Lake’s eastern shore. The two organizations are looking for volunteers to help replace the outhouse roof, with removing non-burnable materials from an old fire-ranger cabin site, enhancing a viewpoint, and adjusting a footbridge. The clean-up day will be held on Thursday, Oct. 11. A meeting place will be arranged. Volunteers should be able to climb up and down fairly steep grades and to carry bags of trash. Proper outdoor attire and work gloves are required. Anyone interested in assisting with this important effort should contact Karin Tilberg at (207) 944-0020 or by email, or Joe Wiley.
