Please join us on Tuesday, February 19 for a presentation on trekking in Norway! Hiking in Norway combines sweeping alpine vistas, glaciers, fjords, glacier-fed lakes, and a world-class hut system. WINTER WEATHER NOTICE: The program will be held tonight. As always, use your own judgment for coming to the program this time of year.
Tulle Frazer and Rob Bryan hiked through this spectacular landscape for eight days beginning at the tiny settlement of Finse, the highest stop on the Oslo to Bergen railway. Hiking on an ancient trading route they passed waterfalls, rushing streams, beautiful valley farms, and abandoned hillside settlements before descending through a narrow gorge to the scenic fjord town of Aurland. Traveling by ferry, bus, ferry again, then taxi they entered Jotunheimen National Park, a mix of spectacular peaks, alpine tundra, rivers, and glacial lakes. Following broad open ridges to mountain passes and through stunted birch forests at lower elevations they came to the turquoise waters of spectacular Lake Gjende, inspiration for some of Norway’s most famous composers and playwrights, before ending their hike at the village of Gjendesheim. On Tuesday, February 19th join Tulle and Rob at the Curtis Memorial Library, 23 Pleasant St, Brunswick, 04032, for a potluck dinner at 6pm and Tulle and Rob at 7pm. Bring a potluck item to share and your own dinnerware (plate, utensils etc.). Drinks will be available. Both potluck and talk are free and open to the public.
