Please join us on Thursday May 30 for an informative presentation in Falmouth on the potential for tar oil sands in Maine. You might throw up your hands hearing all the competing claims about tar sands oil. However, with a looming proposal to pipe Alberta tar sands oil through Maine, we have to figure out what’s true, and what is our role. Is tar sands oil more corrosive than the oil now running in the Portland to Montreal pipeline? Proponents say no, opponents say yes. Can the existing pipeline carry tar sands oil without unacceptable risk to the reservoirs, lakes, wetlands, and rivers it passes? Dylan Voorhees, Clean Energy Project Director for the Natural Resources Council of Maine, will address these questions at an evening presentation at Maine Audubon’s Gilsland Farm in Falmouth, at 7 p.m. Potluck dinner at 6 (bring a plate, utensils, and a food to share). Maine Audubon’s Gilsland Farm in Falmouth, 20 Gilsland Farm Rd, Falmouth, Maine 04105. Parking is free and plentiful. This program is co-sponsored by Maine Audubon and the Maine Chapter of the Appalachian Mountain Club. For more information, download a flyer (112KB PDF) or email Education Chair John Mullens. All events are free and open to the public.
