Situated within Maine’s famed 100-mile wilderness, Little Lyford Pond Camps offer a unique, four-season retreat for outdoor enthusiasts to explore the spectacular mountains and wild surroundings of the Moosehead Lake region. To give AMC members and chapter trip leaders the chance to experience this amazing Destination first-hand, we’re running LLPC’s second Chapter Trip Leaders Familiarization Tour (also known as a “Fam Tour”) scheduled for September 20 — September 23, 2007. This trip will be hosted by Roger Scholl and the AMC’s Volunteer Relations Staff.

To facilitate carpooling and travel arrangements, participants will have two options: 1) Meet a group at the Portsmouth Circle on Thursday (9/20) morning, just north of the Hampton Tolls on I-95, and ride up in an AMC van, or; 2) Meet in Greenville, Maine, at the Northwoods Outfitters Store (see schedule for times) and shuttle into LLPC from there. Directions and more information (including a list of suggested equipment and personal items to make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible) will be distributed to participants after they register. People will be shuttled back to the Northwoods Store on Sunday morning, while carpoolers will be dropped off at their vehicles in Portsmouth.

Throughout the weekend, you’ll enjoy a great schedule of hikes, paddling trips, and other activities. This includes a guided hike to Gulf Hagas, “The Grand Canyon of Maine,” a visit to Chairback and Mediwisla Camps, as well as Chairback Mountain and paddling on Long Pond. On Sunday morning, trip participants will be treated to AMC staff presentations on fly fishing opportunities at LLPC as well as how to enlist local experts for winter AMC chapter trips.

Accommodations include six rustic cabins (capacity of 2-6 per cabin) as well as a shared bunk house. Hot showers are available, and each cabin has its own privy (in addition to a heated common bathroom). Don’t forget to bring your bathing suit for the sauna!

HOW TO REGISTER for trip # 81809 (mention upon reservation) The cost for participants will be just $49 per night for the entire 4 day stay, which includes lodging as well as all meals. Please note that the Jo- Mary Forest management group charges a $10/person gate fee that is used to manage and maintain the roads and forests in the Katahdin Ironworks. This fee will be charged to you upon calling in your reservation. Chapter leaders are welcome to bring family members, friends, or guests at the same rate. To sign up for the trip, contact the AMC Reservations Line at 603-466-2727. If you wish to arrive a day or two early, or stay a day or two longer, you may do so at the same rate of $49/person/night. Please set this up at the time of your call. Space will be assigned on a first-come basis; please note that all cabins will be filled and that no “private” accommodations are guaranteed. Thank you, athere!
