White Mtn. Nat. Forest and AMC Destinations CLOSED Due to Hurricane Irene!

The White Mountain National Forest will be closing all public areas (trails, facilities, etc.) beginning at 6pm Saturday, August 27th, and are not to reopen until late Monday, August 29th. Likewise, AMC will be closing all destinations in NJ and NH due to Hurricane Irene’s expected impact on the area. Mohican Outdoor Center, Cardigan Lodge, all huts and backcountry shelters in the Whites, Joe Dodge Lodge, and the Highland Center are closing at 6pm on Saturday; visitors to these areas will be advised to seek shelter elsewhere. These facilities will remain staffed to provide emergency shelter through the storm. In addition, the Volunteer Managed Facilities at Cold River Camp, Three Mile Island, Echo Lake, Noble View and Fire Island are all confirmed closed as of midday Saturday.
