The CYP (Chapter Youth Program) has been a huge success to date; we have taken over 100 kids ranging from grade three to seniors in high school hiking. And there are smaller successes as well; two children who went on a hike at Bradbury Mountain returned home so excited about hiking they convinced their parents to go to Katahdin! They all hiked this challenging mountain and plan to do more. This is the hope of such a beneficial program-expose kids, get them excited about being outdoors and hiking. They in turn get their parents more active and all is good. We need, however, more leaders for the CYP that we can draw on. Please think about taking the training-a must-so you can get certified as a CYP leader (this is separate from being certified to be an AMC leader). The training is worthwhile, so you will know what is entailed when taking children on hikes. The training will take place at McDonald’s in Freeport on Saturday, May 14th starting at 8A.M.
