The Maine Chapter experienced a highly active year marked by significant increases in outings, trail work, and young members’ activities. While still below pre-pandemic levels, there was substantial growth in trail work in the Maine Woods, resulting in the awarding of 15 trail work scholarships. Group activities, including ski trips, trail work excursions, and events like FallFest at Medawisla, flourished. Noteworthy initiatives included the renovation of Camp Mullins and a collaborative Young Members work weekend with Boston and Worcester chapters.

The Families committee introduced two new family trips, diversifying the chapter’s offerings. The Leadership committee’s training program expanded, producing 10 new leaders in training, contributing to a total of 28 leaders across Outings, Trails, and Young Members. The Programs committee conducted four informative programs, combining online and in-person sessions at the Brunswick Library.

In the Maine Woods, activities ranged from renovating Camp Mullens (formerly Camp Hodge) in memory of John Mullens to planning a new nature trail near Gorman Chairback. A joint Young Members trail work weekend with Boston and Worcester chapters added to the collaborative efforts.

As the outgoing chair completing a three-year tenure, the year showcased a transition from lean pandemic years to a surge in activities. The role, though time-consuming, proved rewarding, involving organizing events, meeting new people, and collaborating with an exceptional executive committee. The chair expressed gratitude to the committee and chapter members for their support of AMC and the Maine Chapter.
