The Maine Chapter of the Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) invites applications for the John Mullens Trail Fellowship. This opportunity is intended for individuals with prior trail work experience who are ready to step into a leadership role. About the John Mullens Trail Fellowship

The fellowship honors the late John Mullens, a dedicated volunteer whose contributions had a lasting impact on the AMC Maine community. It is designed for volunteers who already have hands-on trail maintenance experience and want to lead future trail work trips in the AMC Maine Woods. Fellowship recipients will build advanced trail skills, gain leadership experience, and play a meaningful role in preserving and improving the region’s trail network.

2026 Trail Maintenance Trip Dates

  • June 19 – June 22 — Little Lyford Lodge & Gorman Chairback Lodge

  • June 26 – June 29 — Medawisla Lodge

  • September 11 – September 14 — Medawisla Lodge

  • October 9 – October 12 — Little Lyford Lodge, staying at Gorman Chairback Lodge

 


Important Details

Trail work trips begin with supper on Friday evening and conclude after lunch on Monday.

Selected fellowship recipients receive:

  • Three nights of co-ed bunkhouse lodging

  • All meals

  • Necessary trail tools and equipment

  • No participation cost

 

This is a unique opportunity to experience the Maine Woods while helping advance the AMC’s trail stewardship mission.


Application Process 

Registration for 2026 fellowships is open through April 15, 2026.

Applications will be reviewed shortly after the deadline, and award decisions will be announced by April 30, 2026.


Eligibility

The fellowship is open to new and current AMC members age 18 or older who are passionate about working outdoors and developing leadership skills.
