About the event

For nearly two centuries, the Franconia Ridge Loop has been one of the White Mountains’ most popular hiking destinations. Heavy use, erosion, and increasing precipitation have gradually transformed sections of trail into deep gullies.

To preserve this remarkable route for future generations, the Appalachian Mountain Club and White Mountain National Forest led a five-year, multi-organization restoration of the Old Bridle Path and Falling Waters Trail. Crews rerouted and rebuilt sections using sustainable techniques designed to withstand both heavy foot traffic and increased stormwater.

AMC Trails leaders Matt Moore, Craig Heinselman, Alex DeLucia, and Nora Sackett will present Restoring the Ridge, a short film capturing the project’s scale, challenges, and importance. After the screening, they will answer audience questions and discuss what the project means for trail building, high-use recreation management, and long-term sustainability throughout the region.

Schedule

  • 6:30–7 p.m.: Social hour, informational tables, snacks, and beverages
  • 7 p.m.: Film screening
  • Following the film: Conversation and audience Q&A

AMC and Patagonia will also offer free product giveaways.
