The Maine Chapter Seeks a New Chapter Chair
Are you passionate about the outdoors and looking to make a positive impact in your community? The Maine Chapter is searching for a new Chapter Chair to lead and coordinate local efforts. This role involves overseeing Chapter activities, fostering community among volunteers, and driving initiatives aligned with AMC goals. In an effort to reduce our environmental footprint, Wilderness Matters has transitioned to an online-only format. Members will receive email notifications when new issues are available. Access current and past issues anytime on our website by following these steps:

Federal and State Policy Updates
- Nearly $100 million in funding from the Land & Water Conservation Fund was rescinded, affecting the Forest Legacy program.
- The Maine Trails Bond will be on the ballot this fall, proposing $30 million for trail building and maintenance across the state.
- Dark Sky-compliant lighting standards have been included in new mining regulations to protect areas like the Grafton Loop Trail.
Upcoming Events and Volunteer Opportunities
- June 21-24:Trail Work Weekends at Medawisla Lodge and Gorman Chairback Lodge. Join us for a weekend of trail maintenance and enjoy lodging at these beautiful locations.
- June 5, 12, 19, 26: Westbrook Wednesdays Hike Series. Weekly hikes followed by socializing at the Bridge StreEAT Food Park.
- July 18-21: Trail Work with the Northern Forest Canoe Trail crew on the Allagash Wilderness Waterway.
