The Maine Chapter had a remarkable and productive year in 2024, overcoming leadership challenges and delivering an impressive range of activities, events, and strategic improvements.

After an unexpected leadership transition early in the year, a dedicated four-person leadership team, supported by the Executive Committee, successfully guided the Chapter through its programming, training, and member engagement efforts. As the Chapter continues into 2025, a new leadership team structure is in place to ensure continued stability and growth.

Key achievements in 2024 include:

  • Enhanced Communications: Transitioned from quarterly newsletters to more frequent e-blasts, improving member engagement and reallocating resources to priority programs.
  • Leader Development: Added 5 new trip leaders and 5 leaders-in-training, increasing the active leader count to 30.
  • Trail Work and Volunteerism: Hosted 25 trail work events with 84 volunteers contributing 873.5 hours of service.
  • Maine Woods Initiative (MWI): Awarded scholarships and fellowships, supported over 61 volunteers across trail weekends, and strengthened engagement with Colby College.
  • Activities and Events: Organized 90 events, including hikes, family outings, bike rides, lectures, and the Chapter’s first-ever summer picnic.

This year’s success reflects the dedication of Chapter leaders, volunteers, and members who collectively advanced the Maine Chapter’s mission to foster outdoor recreation, stewardship, and community.
