Paul Lones, AMC Maine Chapter member
With views of South Baldface to the west and Little Deer Hill to the east, 29 of us enjoyed a sunny day of skiing, snowshoeing and sledding out of our base at the Convent at Cold River Camp on Sunday Feb 8, 1999. After a morning of group excursions, we grilled hot dogs and ate lunch in the warm afternoon sun before heading out for some sledding or smaller group ski tours and hikes. With great weather and fun activities, we had a nice day. Perhaps Tara Morazzini said it best when she was overheard saying "Mom, this is the most fun I have ever had cross country skiing". The group consisted of 5 families, with children ranging in age from 3 years old to 12 years old, along with several AMC Maine Chapter trip leaders to help with various excursions and logistics. Several of the leaders spent the afternoon on Saturday checking trail conditions and breaking trail for a nice ski tour loop along the Conant Path and back along the river. Thanks to Jim Tierney, Jim and Mary Folsom, Bruce Moulton, Peter Heinold, Val Taylor, Erick Hagmann, and Dale Temm for leading and helping organize and prepare for the day and to the Morazzini, Bearce, Brown, Frati and Lones families for participating.
