2013 Maine Chapter “Appie” of the Year

At the Maine Chapter Annual Meeting on November 2, Al Mandell was selected as the Maine Chapter “Appie of the Year” for 2013. All was recognized for stepping up to offer kayaking outings and moving the program along to a new level of learning. With his help we were able to offer a free self and assisted kayak rescue course in the spring. He offered several overnight kayak outings with a learning element to them. He has also stepped up to help Young Members offer some more challenging outings and learn new skills. All of this was done within his first year as a Maine Chapter leader! The hand-hewn maple walking stick given to the current Appie of the Year was passed from Kim Sanders (last year’s Appie of the Year) to Al. Please congratulate Al when you see him on the trails and waters!
