Feature Presentation- Blazing through Maine

One of the unsung heroes of creating the Appalachian Trail in Maine was Walter Greene. A Broadway actor who would rather be at his camp on Sebec Lake than basking in the spotlight, it was his unlikely meeting with Myron Avery that made Maine’s contribution to the trail happen with both dedication and speed. Maine author and AT buff Jeffery Ryan will share how Green was Avery’s important wing man at the right time.

Jeff Ryan is an author, adventurer, photographer, and historian. He has written several books about his outdoor exploits, his fascination with hiking trails, and the people and places found just off the beaten path. Books by Jeff Ryan include : Blazing Ahead: Benton MacKaye, Myron Avery and the Rivalry that Built the Appalachian Trail and Appalachian Odyssey: A 28-year hike on America’s trail.
